Magic Ears = Magic Job ✅

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Magic Ears – A flexible company with a great reward system

Life can be full of surprises and sudden changes. A lot of us appreciate having a rather flexible schedule. If this is important for you, Magic Ears is the right job for you as there is no minimum hour requirement. Compared to many other companies, their cancellation policy is also very flexible. A lot of teachers like working for Magic Ears because of their positive work environment. Instead of having a stick approach, the company has a carrot approach (actually, they use literal virtual carrots as your bonuses are called carrots). Magic Ears is also one of the best paying schools – a teacher can earn up to $26 per hour.

Requirements To qualify, you have to be a native speaker from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, or the UK. You need a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education* and 120-hour TESOL certificate**. Teaching experience is preferred and will add to your salary, so don’t forget to add that to your application, whether it’s teaching English, babysitting, homeschooling your children, tutoring, or volunteer teaching.

***NEWS FLASH*** Magic Ears are also currently accepting students who have not yet finished their degree, as long as they can confirm they are enrolled in a degree program.

Teaching hours

Teach as little or as much as you want – there are no minimum hours. However, the more hours you open and the longer you stay with the company, the more classes you will get. The company, not the parents, books the classes for you.

The classes are 25-minute long. Each class has 4 students aged 4-12. After classes, teachers need to complete their feedback to the students within 18 hours. With Magic Ears, you can do this by just recording your voice – which is wonderful as it saves a lot of time – a lot of us have been there writing one feedback after another and as we know, it can easily get very tedious and is very time consuming. The schedule is adjusted to the Chinese students’ needs, so the peak times are on evenings and weekends (BJT) when the children aren’t at school.

The reward system and pay: BASE PAY - One of the best things about this company is the high pay. Most teachers earn $20 - $26 per hour. When you start, you’ll be placed on a tier, and depending on your experience and education your base rate will be $7.50, $8.50, or $10 per 25 minute class (double that amount for your hourly base rate). BONUSES - Magic Ears offers many incentives. The “carrots” earned can be used for a pay rise upon the contract renewal, in the Magic Ears online store, or for cancellations. You can earn extra money easily. For instance, when you open at least 60 classes per month (30 hours) during peak time slots, you will earn an extra dollar per class taught (instantly giving you a $2 per hour pay rise!). You can also earn bonuses by teaching standby ($2 per class) or just by arriving in your classes on time ($1 per class). Can you see how you quickly increase your pay 🥳.

Cancellation policy Their cancellation policy is another big pro of Magic Ears. You can cancel classes without any penalty 24 hours beforehand. In case there’s a need to cancel after that, each teacher has two ‘regular cancellations’ per month meaning that up to 30 minutes before the class, teachers can cancel their bookings for classes on just that day or all of their bookings for the next seven days without punishment. If you need to cancel more lessons, you can do that by using the “carrots” you’ve earned.

Application process Magic Ears has high standards for their teachers, and some teachers say that the process to get in can be hard. But after you pass the first interview, and get invited to a second interview, you can repeat that interview as many times as you like, until you get in. We’d love to help you with the process, so feel free to contact us for more information about the process and how to prepare for your interviews.

How about the cons? Every job has its challenges. Magic Ears has a strict teaching style, and some teachers find it hard at first. On the bright side, if there’s a need to improve or change something, teachers get a lot of feedback so that they know exactly what they need to change. Filling your slots can provide another challenge at first. Teachers say it can take some weeks before you get all the classes you want.

Conclusion Overall, Magic Ears is a great place to work. if you’re looking for a well-paid online teaching job, you love teaching children, and you would like to have flexibility in your schedule, this might be just the place for you!
